Hearing loss is very stigmatized and makes many deaf and hard of hearing students and employees reluctant to ask for communication access services. Not all of them have same hearing and communication abilities and preferences and may not get the proper accommodations. They are often frustrated with access to education and employment. Also, there are many educational materials such as videos that are not accessible via quality captions. The speaker will share her first hand experience as a deaf student and an employee, show examples of frustrations of people like her, and discuss what can be done to improve quality communication and information access in education. Come and check the presentation signed by the speaker, voiced by a sign language interpreter, and open captioned in real time. Let’s think outside the ears!
This session will be open live captioned on a separate screen for the entire audience. Thanks to our gold sponsor, Last Call Media, for making this possible.
