We ❤ Our Haters

Sure, no one particularly liked the central portal, circa 2005, but they still didn’t want us to change it. We’ll take you through our experience and the lessons we learned in our redesign process, from initial research, planning, prototyping, and beta testing to deployment, and how we used feedback from students to guide our product road map and validate our design decisions. We’ll share how we did it, what we learned, and what we’d do differently.

Takeaways:

  • Successful and less successful methods of collecting research and user input, and dealing with range of positive / negative feedback
  • Tactics for articulating and addressing challenges of various project motivations – tech upgrade competing with best UX practices
  • Planning for course corrections due to deceptive or hard-to-interpret original research
  • Technical challenges and opportunities of building a user-customizable portal using WordPress
